Lynda Carter

Carter was born in Phoenix (Arizona) as the daughter of Juanita Cordova and Colby Carter. Her father is of English as well as Scots Irish ancestry and her mother is Mexican and Spanish. She has one brother, Vincent and one sister, Pamela. Carter made her public television debut on Lew King's Talent Show at age 5. Carter was part of Just Us in high school. The band used a marimba, conga drums an acoustic and stand-up basses. One girl from the group also played guitar. Lynda began singing in a pizza place at the age of 15.  She joined her cousins' group, The Relatives, when she was 16. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer of The band. The band first began at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. Carter had to enter the kitchen because she was younger than 21. After being called "Most gifted", Carter decided to leave school and pursue a career as a musician. In the year 1970, Carter auditioned and then did a the road with The Garfin Gathering and bandleader Howard (Speedy) Garfin. Their first show together was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown in San Francisco that was so brand-new that it didn't have a sidewalk entrance. The hotel's staff as well as hotel guests had their cars parked in the garage underground, which meant that they were mainly performing to them. The Garfin Gathering played shows in numerous Nevada casinos, such as those between Lake Tahoe, Carson City and Reno. Carter was forced to leave the Garfin Gathering to pursue acting in 1972 and returned to Arizona.
